If you have had a car service or car repair performed lately, you’ve probably been offered to purchase a warranty on the parts, the labor, or possibly both. Because there are different types of car repair warranties, it may be confusing as to whether the warranty offered is worth the extra cost. Be sure to find out exactly what kind of warranty is being offered before you make a decision. You want to know what you are paying for!
There are three main questions to ask when considering car repair warranties:
- What is included in the coverage, or not covered?
Be sure you understand what all the warranty covers, or what it does not cover. For example, does it cover just the drive train or is it bumper-to-bumper? How many miles or months does it last before it expires?
- Is the warranty cost-effective for the long-term, or more short-term?
Is there a deductible and if so, how often does it have to be met? Will the cost of the warranty be more than your out-of-pocket expenses for car repair each year?
- What are the Stipulations?
There are usually stipulations with every extended warranty so be sure to read the fine print. How stringent are those stipulations and does it apply only to that particular dealer or auto repair shop?
Remember: Before committing to an extended warranty on your next car repair, ask for advice from our car service professionals.
**Hybrid Owners Beware!
Hybrid owners may not need to replace the hybrid battery due to failure—but more likely from theft! There has been an increase in the number of hybrid vehicle battery thefts--costly to hybrid owners. The cost to replace and repair the wiring is more than the battery itself. There are tamper-proof fasteners available that make it much more difficult to remove a battery. They are much more economical than replacing a battery and repairing damaged wiring. Check with your Hybrid Shop’s certified hybrid specialists to find out more!**
