The topic of transmission repair or even transmission service is something that gets overlooked a lot of times. This is especially true when it comes to a long road trip over the hot summer months as people are excited to get going down the road. The fact is, many drivers only know that their vehicle has a transmission and it has something to do with making the car move forward. This may sound like a joke, but this is a serious subject and one that can lead to a costly repair, or worse yet an accident, if you fail to take care of basic transmission service.

One thing that will help save your motor is to check the external temperature. If it is over 100 degrees, it may be wise to forfeit driving until the temperature cools down. If it is, then you need to think about not driving. If you do drive, then make sure that you take more breaks than normal to allow the transmission time to cool off and help avoid excessive wear and tear.

Listen to your car and be aware of any odd noises or smells that may come from the transmission. Also be aware if your vehicle is acting sluggish in accelerating, especially while going uphill.

If you see, hear or smell anything that seems out of the ordinary, be sure to schedule a transmission service as soon as possible. You will save a load of money with a minor transmission repair being made as opposed to having to make a major expensive repair.

Remember: The transmission is the heart and soul of the vehicle and needs to be given the utmost respect and consideration.
