Do You Know Why Car Service is Important?
When was the last time you visited your auto shop for a maintenance car service? If it’s been less than six months ago, great! But if it’s been more than a year since you’ve had your car into your auto shop, it is possible that you could be looking at a costly car repair that could have been avoided. So you’re not really saving money by extending the time or mileage intervals between services.
So if you’re wondering why car service is important, think about what could happen if you neglect regular car service. Given a little time, your car will start to lose its power and efficiency when things like spark plugs wear out, a tire goes flat, or you can’t shift into a different gear. Or if you drive with little or no oil to lubricate the engine, the head gasket or pistons can be severely damaged. Timely car service could have prevented these problems in the first place.
It's important to maintain your car even if the check engine light hasn’t come on. Read your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s service recommendations or discuss the maintenance schedule with your car repair technician. Hidden damage or wear on vital components such as steering and braking can be uncovered and repaired before you are faced with an emergency car repair, or even worse, be the cause of an accident!
A Word of Advice: If possible, try to fit basic car service into your monthly budgets, such as an oil change every three to four months, or a brake inspection every six months or so. The cost for these services is much less than having to replace an engine or the transmission.
