Restore Balance with Wheel Balancing!
Most drivers think that when they feel their vehicle pulling to one side of the road or the other, there is a car alignment problem. When wheels are not properly aligned, engine performance, tire wear, smoothness of the ride, and other vehicle components can all be adversely affected. Or, an out-of-balance tire and wheel will typically create a vibration or shake felt through the steering wheel or seat that becomes progressively worse as the vehicle's speed increases. A simple wheel balancing may be all that is needed to straighten out your vehicle on the road.
The differences between car alignment and wheel balancing are explained below:
- Car Alignment -- In a car alignment service, technicians may adjust your power steering, front suspension and rear suspension to make sure each wheel is pointed the right way. Proper car alignment can improve gas mileage, prevent premature tire wear, and keep your vehicle driving straight and true.
- Wheel Balancing – In a wheel balancing service, the technician will mount and spin the wheel on a balancing machine to locate the heavier part. A lead weight will then be attached to the opposite to compensate for the heavy part. Wheel balancing provides a smoother ride by minimizing tire bounce, improve traction and steering control, and help extend the life of the tires.
*In the News from “Green Car Report” — “Hybrids have now been sold in large numbers for more than a decade, but new buyers continue to raise concerns about their longevity. Over the past few years, hybrids have proven to be well suited to taxi service. Many cities have deployed large numbers of hybrid taxis to help cut emissions. The Toyota Prius in particular has made a strong showing. A taxi driver in Austria claims to have covered 1 million kilometers (more than 600,000 miles) in his Toyota Prius--all with the original battery pack. That is an impressive achievement for any car, hybrid or not. The driver--Manfred Dvorak--claims it has never broken down. San Francisco's first 15 Ford Escape Hybrid taxis racked up as much as 300,000 miles on the city's streets without any trouble. Fuel savings mean all of those miles also come at a lower operating cost. The slow, stop-and-go driving of city traffic allows hybrids to operate solely on electric power more often, making the most of their green powertrains. For cities looking to cut emissions and cab companies looking to save money, they'll likely remain among the best options available.”
