To ensure overall longevity, safety, and reliability and to avoid costly surprises, it's important to take good care of your car. The best way to achieve this is by doing often car maintenance.

Vehicle maintenance can come in different forms, such as mile-based and preventive maintenance. Still, despite the form, it is crucial to understand when vehicle maintenance is due. So, how often should you do car maintenance?

Generally, you should follow the following:

i. 30 – 60 – 90 Service Intervals

This scheduled maintenance requires your car to be serviced at 30,000 miles, 60,000 miles, and 90,000 miles.

ii. Oil Change Every 5,000 to 10,000 Miles

Depending on your car's oil quality, engine efficiency, and fuel injection, it is important to change your engine oil at regular mile intervals, with the standard interval being 5,000 – 10,000 miles.

iii. Air Filter Change Every 15,000 Miles

If you live in polluted and dusty areas, the recommended interval for air filter change is 15,000 miles. However, if you live in favorable areas, you can change your air filters at intervals of 30,000 miles.

iv. Fuel Filter Change Every 30,000 Miles

These are critical to ensure proper running of your car's engine. If you neglect your car for too long, the engine can easily fail because the fuel pump needs to work harder than usual.

Why is it Important to Follow the Vehicle Maintenance Schedule Listed in the Owner's Manual?

There is usually a huge disconnect between your car's manufacturer's maintenance schedule and the advice from external service advisors. Most of these service advisors will mislead you when asked about how often should you do car maintenance. They are salespeople promoting their businesses and will add extra stuff your car could not need to get extra cash from you. It is, therefore, important to follow the vehicle maintenance schedule listed in the owner's manual instead.
