If you have ever driven past a used tire lot and thought for a second there might be a good deal, stop right there. Used tires are not dependable as you simply don't know their internal condition. Good tires are important to maintain on your vehicle as they have a direct impact on the overall quality of your drive while also keeping you safe. There are different ways your tire set can improve your vehicle performance, so make sure to follow through with these different tire service requirements.

The Quarter Test

You may have grown up on the penny test, where if you slide a penny in between the tread and you can see the top of Lincoln's head it's time to replace the rubber. That really isn't all that safe, especially if you live in an environment where it rains or snows. Instead, you want to perform the quarter test. It works the same except it does not allow the rubber to wear down too far before it's time for new tires. If you can see the top of Washington's head, it is time to change.

Winter vs. All Weather Tires

An all weather tire is nice if you live where it rains a good amount and you might see a drifting of snow here and there. However, if it snows a good deal where you live, it is important to purchase a winter treads, at least during the colder months. Because the tread is different, it helps maintain traction better and they survive the cold better than all-weather tread.

Rotation

Whenever you go in for general work, such as routine maintenance or other repairs, make sure to have a rotation service. This keeps your tires wearing smoothly and evenly. If you have a full-sized spare, you can have this swapped in as well.
