Highways in the U.S. are becoming more congested each year with all makes, models, and years of vehicles. In 2001, a survey showed there were an estimated 204 million cars and light trucks crowding our roads. This means there are even more vehicles on the road today. In light of this fact, it's critical that vehicles have the appropriate maintenance service performed at the appropriate interval, including brake service. A reduction of just an inch or two in your vehicle's stopping distance could make the difference between a minor fender-bender, or a major collision. If a brake repair is recommended by your auto technician, don't put it off until after an accident.

Crowded roads aren't the only concern. Many roads are often in a sorry state of repair. In cold climates, the freeze/thaw cycle enlarges cracks and holes in the pavement. In sunnier spots, the heat, big cargo trucks, and years of neglect take their toll. The way your vehicle handles is affected by the conditions of the road and can cause various elements in your vehicle to fail prematurely. Unfortunately, most drivers don't spend much time thinking about the state of their braking system until they fail. But you don't have to be a brake repair expert to make sure they are operating safely.

Neglected Vehicle Maintenanceand Brake Service

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association published another study in 2001 indicating that out of the number of cars and light trucks on the road at that time, potentially 194.3 million of them needed maintenance, brake service, or some other type of auto repair. It is shocking to think that less than five percent of vehicles have maintenance services performed on a regular basis. For vehicles over five years old, it is likely that this percentage is even higher.

Brake Repair Costs

Putting off a needed brake service for too long can be costly. For a typical brake replacement job, you'll not only need new brake pads, but new rotors as well to replace the ones that were ruined by procrastinating. The old saying is true, "Pay a little now or a lot later."
