Taking care of your tires with regular tire service is a wise investment in your vehicle. They are one of the most overlooked of all a vehicle’s components.  A monthly inspection of your tires is the best way to prevent a costly tire repair, and even an accident! Neglected tires can be the cause of more extensive damage to your car or occupants in the event of a tire failure while on the road. We know that nothing is more important to you than the safety of you and your passengers.

To prevent a more costly auto repair, or even an accident, here are 3 guidelines that you should follow on a regular schedule:

  • Check air pressure. If your tires are under-inflated, take care of them immediately. The friction caused by the resistance generates heat, which then results in a damaged tire. Check the spare at the same time and keep it in good condition so that you won’t be stranded by the side of the road with a flat.
  • Check the tread depth. The more tread depth, the greater the traction. It is important that the inside groove and the outside edge wear evenly.  If not, your car may be out of alignment.  Is your steering wheel vibrating?  If so, the balance weight may need to be restored, or you may need a wheel alignment to improve the overall ride and handling of your vehicle.
  • Have a rotation every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.  This assures that all four tires wear at the same rate.  If there are signs of excessive wear and tear, if at all possible have all four replaced at the same time. At the very least, purchase either the two front ones, or the two back ones at the same time. Consider the climate where you live and the purpose of your vehicle to determine the right type of tires to purchase for your car or truck.
